Monadnock-Sunapee Greenway

Monadnock-Sunapee Greenway Trail Adventure

Last minute trip planning and packing is always fun, right?! After leaving work on a Saturday night in November, I headed home to quickly gather my gear together, before hitting the road for the 2(ish) hour long drive to the Dublin Trailhead at the base of Mount Monadnock (in Dublin, NH), where I would meet Mike and Mike. After a couple long streches of highway, and a few sketchy, barely lit dirt sideroads, I arrived into the parking lot, happy to see Mike's car parked and waiting. After a couple quick "Hellos" and "How's it goings," I unloaded my belongs from my Jeep and tossed them in Mike's trunk. We would stay at Mike's mother's house that night for a couple hours of sleep, before beginning our journey super early the next morning.

Mike's initial email plan:

"We could drive up early early Sunday and drop one car at Monadnock at the Dublin Trail head. (The spot has no staff or fixed open or close time.) Drop water and aid at Pitcher Mountain and maybe one other road crossing.  The toughest trail sections to run are at the north end.  After Rt 9 it’s not much up and down until Monadnock. Drive to Sunapee, leave car #2 and run 48 miles to Monadnock summit.  Back to car #1 at Dublin and drive to get the other car - then back to Boston late Sunday night.

"Up early Sunday morning - maybe 4am alarm? Coffee, shower, head to Sunapee parking. (don’t forget car keys!!) I found the trail map for Sunapee (attached).  I called them this morning - parking all day is no problem.

Looks like from the parking lot it is Summit Trail (to Summit) - then Solitude Trail (1 mile) to White Ledges where the M-SGT starts south.
I made a new map of the route from there with markers that can be loaded into Google Maps. (attached)

The first stop would be the Washington General Store for aid (bring card/cash).
2nd aid would be Pitcher Mountain
3rd aid would be Rt. 9/Nye Road
4th aid would be Chesham Road

We’d hit Dublin Trail Head before summiting Monadnock so we could leave water, clothing (if it gets cold Sunday evening), backup headlamp batteries, etc.)

Summit (quite possibly in the dark with headlamps) - then descend and take your Jeep back to Sunapee to get my car - then drive south to Boston (1.5 - 2 hours, depending on traffic)"

Stuff to bring:
Sleeping bags & pillows
Bright orange/yellow gear - hunting season
Headlamps & spare batteries

Let me know if this sounds reasonable or if I forgot anything. Also, if you guys want be to get anything specific for aid, let me know.  Water, Coke, chips, cookies, etc.  I can get anything you might want.

Totally psyched!
